Architectonic Construction

Objective: Create a three-dimensional abstracted architectonic form that is a minimum of 12"x12"x12". Materials will include white foam core, glue guns, and linear elements, which can be constructed from wire, gimp, nylon, or cord.

This is an architectonic project that we had to do using planes, curvilinear shapes, additive and subtractive shapes, and liner elements. I was originally inspired by playgrounds, as shown in my maquettes, but then I became inspired by suit of armor.

Materials used: paper and foam core, glue gun

Project inspired by the works of Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry, as well as suit of armor.

3-D Sketch Models for Architectonic Structure

Objective: Choose the most interesting large sketches to create sketch models. COmpose your models at a scale of about 6"x6"x6" using Bristol board, card-board or foam core. Play with the forms. Build them and then pull them apart to look at other possible designs.

Planes

This project we had to create a three-dimensional form by using layered planes to create movement.

Update

After many long hours of cutting about 200 index cards, we finally were able to start assembling it.

(This project is currently in the process and is being reworked and fit to a smaller scale.)

During this assignment, we encountered numerous problems
with our construction. We are going to reenforce the index cards
and create a more elaborate display with the linkage by using
metal washers and wire. The fabrication was too large and will be
shorten by one foot. We are looking forward to completing this
assignment for this one is our baby, our first project for this class. :)

Happy Days!

Updated pictures for this assignment will be up soon.

Modular Relief Fabrication

For our first assignment, my partner Sabrina Salgado and I were required to create a fabrication out of index cards. We learned about the technique of kirigami, a form of origami that is created by cutting through paper to create a three-dimensional form. We were to create a numerous amount of kirigamis out of index cards and link them together to create a fabrication.

Objective: Construct an experimental relief design from a repetition of modular paper units with a dimensional surface.  Your finished piece should hang as a paper fabrication that measures @ 36” wide x 72 “ long ( 1yd. x 2 yds. of fabrication)

Criteria: Consider the form, function, and unity of entire three-dimensional construction: This design fabrication could eventually be a  design concept for a window covering, curtain, room divider or haute couture fashion fabric.

Here are some examples of kirigami that I love!

Welcome :)

My name is Melissa Ojeda and welcome to my very first blog! This blog is created to document my 3D Design projects and inspiration for my 3D Design class for my second semester at Moore College of Art and Design.

Keepin it 3D!
