Modular Relief Fabrication

For our first assignment, my partner Sabrina Salgado and I were required to create a fabrication out of index cards. We learned about the technique of kirigami, a form of origami that is created by cutting through paper to create a three-dimensional form. We were to create a numerous amount of kirigamis out of index cards and link them together to create a fabrication.

Objective: Construct an experimental relief design from a repetition of modular paper units with a dimensional surface.  Your finished piece should hang as a paper fabrication that measures @ 36” wide x 72 “ long ( 1yd. x 2 yds. of fabrication)

Criteria: Consider the form, function, and unity of entire three-dimensional construction: This design fabrication could eventually be a  design concept for a window covering, curtain, room divider or haute couture fashion fabric.

Here are some examples of kirigami that I love!
